Green Hour Assignment 7

Oh no... we're behind again! And all because the weather has been SO bad. O.K. Maybe not BAD. Just WET!
In our one day last week we managed to get out, we read about dandelions and looked closely at one.
Rebel was going to be watching the dandelion everyday... but when the weather is dull and dreary (really... it is JUST like England in the summer, I SWEAR!!) all the time those dandelions just DON'T want to come out!
Instead, we planned some garden stuff.
I planted out the giant pumpkins with M'Lady, because the things kept wilting. I don't know if they liked it or not because it is too wet!
We watched the birds some. In fact, we watched a robin building her nest. I am not sure if she has plans of staying there... it seemed somewhat open to me, but it was great fun watching her!
We took a walk in the drizzle. Needless to say, if it is wet, there are no pictures, but we looked around. Saw a few things blooming... like the tulips and the Vinca major (periwinkle) and an unidentified plant in someone's garden.
We watched the power company butcher chop down a tree.
We bought sunflower seeds to make a sunflower garden, a few dipping gourd seeds for use this autumn, and some other seeds and onion sets, ready to plant out when it dries a little.

And that was our nature study last week!

This week, Rebel made his nature box... and hopefully it will stay dry long enough to get some gardening done. In the meantime, I will think about how to make our own field guide. Or just how to display our pressed flowers!

Sounds like a lot of fun even though it is wet.

You know, sometimes nature study is just the ordinary day to day stuff that happens and it just seems to fill in around the empty spots in our life.

I love the easy feel of your nature time and observations. I would love to watch a robin build a nest. :)

Thanks,
